Greg Olsen, CHI

Bears HC Lovie Smith insists that, despite the arrival of OC Mike Martz, TE Greg Olsen will stay heavily involved in the offensive gameplan. "He will be successful in this offense," Smith said. "His role has increased as far as us going to him every year. I don't see that changing." Unless Smith will be the one calling the plays -- which won't be the case -- we have a hard time believing this one. The 49ers said TE Vernon Davis would stay involved when Martz joined the team in 2008. Davis finished that season with just 31 catches for 358 yards.

All Hail Mike Martz, the bane of Tight Ends! The addition of veteran Brandon Manumaleuna and of course the arrival of Darth Martz is not good news for Greg Olson. And now we have the addition of a very good blocking TE that played with Martz in STL added to a team that already has a great receiving TE. Can we read into this? You betcha! The best that could happen to Olsen now is to get traded to a team like the Browns, Bengals, Bills, or other team with struggling WR play or that starts with a 'B'.

With all the buzz about Cutler looking for Olsen in practice, Olsen is no longer a bargain sleeper at TE.

Coach believes that Olsen has stood out this spring and is on his way to becoming a dominant player at his position (with the help of Cutler). Of the TE6-TE10 options, Olsen probably has the best shot of entering the top 5 this season.

I agree with you there Zen. Olsen is #4 on my board after Witten, Gates and Gonzo but before Winslow
