LaDainian Tomlinson, NYJ

1
Former Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson blames his lackluster 2009 campaign on San Diego's play-calling. "Everything was taken away from me," LT said. "There wasn't an emphasis on running the football anymore, my best fullback was gone, the linemen were pass-blocking and it was a passing quarterback and a passing coach." Tomlinson isn't usually one to complain, but that doesn't mean he's not dead-wrong here. The Chargers turned into a pass-first team precisely because LT was no longer effective. His yards per carry average has declined the past 4 years, bottoming out at 3.3 last season.

Jets HC Rex Ryan plans on RB LaDainian Tomlinson being a big part of his offense in 2010. "Hypothetically, we'd see [Tomlinson] carry the ball 15 times a game," Ryan said. "I'm sure some games he'll have more rushing attempts than Shonn Greene, and I think Shonn will have more than L.T. in other games." Of course, a lot can and will change between now and Week 1, but this isn't good news for Greene. It sounds like the current plan is a straight RB-by-committee with Tomlinson and Greene splitting carries equally. And don't forget that RB Leon Washington will also be in the mix. It's crowded in the Jets' backfield.

Free-agent RB LaDainian Tomlinson has opted to sign with the Jets over the Vikings. LT signed the dotted line on a 2-year, $5.2 million deal with New York this afternoon. He'll join a backfield that includes RBs Shonn Greene and Leon Washington. Tomlinson will probably pick up 8-10 total touches per game and will likely steal more work from Washington than Greene. LT will be 31 before the season starts and doesn't offer the power or explosion that Greene does at this point. That being said, Tomlinson has found a nice landing spot here. The Jets are a run-first offense with an excellent offensive line. Look for LT to improve upon last season's 3.3 yards per carry average.

L.T. should have another rough game this week against the stout Denver defense, which makes him the Cold Shoulders Sit of the Week

L.T. could suffer even after he returns to the field with the Chargers' losses on the defensive side of the ball.

Despite the love he gets, Fools still thinks L.T. is one of the RBs to pass on this year because of his lack of upside.

if you are the 5th pick do you take LT if he is there, being a huge colts fan I saw what Sprowls is capable of doing any advice ??? thx

I think that I draft him at 5, but only because I don't like anyone else. It's too early for Fitz/Moss and the second tier of RBs. He's kind of in a tier 1.5 in my opinion. People seem to range widely on where they would take him though.

By looking at game footage, Scouts Inc predicts that Tomlinson is due for a decline this year. Not a sharp fall off of the cliff, but he's definitely going to be less productive than before. Stop dreaming about a huge comeback.

Tomlinson has been working out every day this offseason and failed to suffer a setback. Still being draft mid- to late-first round in most redrafts, could be the steal of fantasy drafts this year.

Tomlinson is enjoying his first injury-free offseason in a few years. Should be a good sign for fantasy owners.

That's interesting, I hadn't realized how banged up he has been in the past. Now that he's starting off fresh he might be in for one more solid season before Sproles takes over.

2
Yeah, people might be underestimating him this year. I wouldn't mind taking him in the first round.

He's going in 1.09 for 12-team drafts. I guess that sounds about right. Lots of upside.

I think LT still has ATLEAST 1 or 2 More Season as an Elite Fantasy Player, I'm surpised so many teams are passing on him this season. I'm sure he will surpise a lot of owners by the time 2009 season is over with!!

Yeah, I don't know. The drop-off for elite RBs is pretty sharp. One day they're a stud, the next, nada. Shaun Alexander, Priest Holmes, etc.

LT's fantasy value is very iffy right now. Still need to find out how big of a role that Sproles will play. For a 1st round pick, I'm planning to pass.

I don't know. I see LT as an effective player. He may not approach 2000 total yards, but he'll be deserving of a late first round pick.
