Michael Turner, ATL

2
Falcons RB Michael Turner carried the ball an NFL-high 376 times in 2008. It caught up to him last year, as he wore down and missed 5 of Atlanta's last 7 games. The team wants to make sure that doesn't happen again and plans to limit Turner's workload this season. "It's important for us to do a good job of monitoring his carries for the game," HC Mike Smith said. "We have to make sure we don't overwork Michael throughout the season." The Falcons figure to throw more this coming season and will also get RB Jerious Norwood involved. But Turner is still a good bet for about 20 carries per game.

Don't be scared of Turner in the top five. He's bound to do well this year with more weapons around him, and he's still a "pick."

Turner just fell to #12 in an experts league I'm participating in. It is PPR but he finished 4th among RB's last season in the scoring system. Thinking it may be the timing of the talk of him seeing less carries.

I think you're probably right about the timing. I saw him fall in a PPR experts league as well, but I think people were just taking guys they felt had better upside for PPR rather than avoiding Turner as he slid.

Yeah, I snagged Turner at 12 in the Junkyard Jake Drunken Pirates league and was pretty happy. He definitely could use some more receptions, but he's still a first-round value.

Michael Turner leads the "busts" list on West Sports Report. They predict 900 yards, 10 TDs.

900 yards? Seriously?

That article is absolutely foolish!! Last year, Turner got 376 carries -- ridiculous! Coaches are right to get that back in line, so lower expectations make sense. But even if his production is reduced by 100 carries that projects to 1200 yds and 12 TDs. When Turner left SD he was averaging 4.5/car and that did not change in ATL. 10 TDs sounds reasonable, but the yardage prediction of 25% less is just being stupid!

Sometimes to get a better picture of a team's rushing ability I will compare the starter to the backups. It is interesting to note that Norwood also high yds/car in this offense. This offense puts up huge numbers on the ground and they are young.
