Rashard Mendenhall, PIT

With Roethlisberger being suspended, the defense struggling last year, their top WR gone, and his competition (Parker) gone, you GOTTA bump Mendenhall up high on your charts. Is he top-10 material? Not sure I would go that far, but there are very few RBs not in an RBBC out there. Mendenhall is one of those guys with no competition and a QB that will need help. BIG sleeper potential here!

Steelers HC Mike Tomlin has big expectations for RB Rashard Mendenhall as he enters his 3rd NFL season. "I think (Mendenhall) had a productive season," Tomlin said. "I think he's capable of a lot more to be quite honest with you. I've been pretty clear with him in terms of that with our exit interview. He's a very talented guy. He's still a very young guy. He was 20 years old when we got him. He's a guy that's on the rise, and I think he needs to have that mentality. Looking for him to do great things for us." With RB Willie Parker gone, Mendenhall has a shot to be a 3-down back in Pittsburgh this season. There aren't many of those left in the NFL, and that gives Mendenhall top-5 upside.

Yeah, Mendenhall has a lot of potential. Showed flashes of greatness last year. Let's hope he can keep it up and be consistent as well.

The Steelers are still trying to assess the progress of Rashard Mendenhall, but so far he has failed to distinguish himself as the elite RB that they thought they drafted last spring.

Rashard Mendenhall has looked strong in the early preseason, and the hopes are that he will be able to assume a significant role in 2009 as a possible backfield partner with Willie Parker. As a highly touted rookie, Mendenhall missed almost the entire 2008 season with a broken shoulder blade.
