Bears HC Lovie Smith announced RB Matt Forte would begin the season as the starter, but face competition from newly signed Chester Taylor. Forte might have the official title as "starter" for now, but it's clear this is shaping up to be a two man committee. The Bears didn't dish out a 4-year 15-million dollar deal to have Taylor ride the pine, so look for a near 50-50 split come the regular season.

It is as I had feared... only much, much sooner. "We have two starters," Darth Martz proclaims almost a day after my posting. This is not good news for Forte owners. And in redraft leagues, this knocks him probably below RB20 in your ADP.

Chester Taylor signed with the Chicago Bears. Taylor's stock definitely improves here, as he is a good pass-catching back -- which Forte is not. Forte declined in '09 to the detriment of anyone who drafted him in the first round. Cutler obviously is a gunslinger and did not look to Forte as an outlet. Very few passes in '09 and now being taken out on 3rd down?! This move may push Forte as low as the 4th or 5th round.

A writer at the bleacher report projects Forte to get 1,400-1,500 rushing yards, 400 receiving yards, and 10-15 touchdowns. Kind of optimistic, but reasonable.

That's a great position to be in. Can't go wrong either way. I think I prefer Turner because he's a TD machine. The article makes some good points I hadn't considered though.

Matt Forte injured his hamstring at practice last week. He reportedly heard a "pop" but said it is nothing too serious. He had an MRI but the results have not been disclosed.

Forte is a top 3 pick in fantasy drafts and having Cutler only increases his value. Cutler will make teams will pay if they have too many guys at the line of scrimmage.

That's a good point. Last year teams knew that the Bears were going to run the ball because they had no passing game. Having a decent passing weapon should help increase Forte's YPC.

Yeah, the Bears have had a decent O-line, just no one that could actually throw the ball. This could really be the Bears' year.

Forte is looking forward to Cutler arriving. They may pass a little more than last year, but my guess is that Chicago stays run-first. Overall positive impact for Forte.
