ESPN's Adam Schefter -- via his Blackberry, of course -- reports that the Chiefs have signed free-agent RB Thomas Jones to a 2-year deal worth $5 million. It's backup money, and that's what we expect Jones to be. The 31-year-old averaged an impressive 4.2 yards per carry in New York last season. But that was behind one of the best offensive lines in the game. He won't have that luxury in Kansas City. Expect the Chiefs to use the quicker and more explosive Jamaal Charles as their primary ball-carrier while getting Jones 8-10 touches per game. That being said, expect Jones to vulture the goal-line work. The move definitely puts a dent in Charles' value, but he still has top-10 upside.

Unless you're taking a late-round flier on part of the Jets backfield, you may want to avoid it altogether in fantasy football drafts this year.

After missing 6 voluntary OTAs, Thomas Jones returned to Jets camp. He is said to be in great shape, but still unhappy about his contract. After rushing for an AFC-leading 1312 yards in 2008, Jones is scheduled to make only $900,000 in year 3 of his 4-year contract.

Tell the whole story. TJ's already been paid something like $13 mil the last two years. This is the last year of his deal and he's over 30, so he won't be back in 2010 regardless.

Also a good point. He's never been a stellar running back. Always just slightly better than the other guys on the roster.

TJ's value is falling due to his contract dispute and the addition of Shonn Greene. Not sure where I would take him this year.

TJ will be an interesting pick. No way will he be back in 2010 with the Jets so if he does show up and he's healthy, I'd expect the Jets to run him into the ground this year. Greene will get some touches, but they have no reason to save TJ

The latest report is that Thomas Jones is not going to get a new deal because the Jets are trying to shore up money to sign Sanchez.

Thomas Jones didn't show up at the Jets' minicamp to dispute his contract. At his age and wear I don't know how much negotiating power he really has.
