Steve Smith, CAR

Steve Smith was recently on WFNZ AM in Charlotte, NC discussing the Panthers offseason moves and lack thereof this spring. Shockingly, Smith had this to say about his situation in Carolina: "Well the thing is, everybody keeps saying a compliment receiver to complement me . . . I don't want anyone to complement me. I'm turning 31 years old, people can say I'm losing speed, yada, yada, yada. I would like a younger guy to come in and eventually take my spot. I don't want to be a #1 anymore." An NFL WR that doesn't want to be the focal point of his offense? This has fantasy red flag written all over it. The Panthers are without a 1st round pick this year and have virtually no other WRs on the roster capable of taking over #1 WR duties, so don't expect much of a shakeup to the Panthers receiving corps. But Smith's lack of vigor is certainly disheartening.

That's a good sign. I guess I won't drop him in my rankings yet. Hopefully others will overreact.

Steve Smith injured his shoulder at practice. X-rays are negative, but he's going to be out for a while.

Not a big hit for Steve Smith's value, but this will be the second year in a row that he starts the season with questions. Will he ever have a quiet preseason again?

Steve Smith is back on the field at practice already. He avoided contact, but did individual drills. Seems to be recovering quickly from his injury.
