Washington Defense, WAS

Before trading away a 2010 2nd-round pick and a 3rd or 4th rounder in 2011 for QB Donovan McNabb, the Redskins reportedly offered up DT Albert Haynesworth. The Eagles weren't interested. But Washington is still shopping Haynesworth, and the Rams and Titans have emerged as possible landing spots. The biggest stumbling block here is Haynesworth's mammoth $100 million contract. It's tough to see the Titans bringing Haynesworth back when they just let him walk in free-agency last year. But the Rams could make sense, especially with defensive-minded HC Steve Spagnuolo in charge. We'd bet against a deal getting done, but it sounds like Washington wants to move the big man before the NFL Draft later this month.

The Texans have signed K Neil Rackers to a 2-year deal. He'll compete with K Kris Brown in training camp this summer. We'd put our money on Rackers. He has a stronger leg and has made 91% of his FGs over the past 2 seasons. Brown, on the other hand, has converted on just 79% of his attempts. The winner will be an excellent fantasy option.

The Lions have acquired OG Rob Sims from the Seahawks in exchange for a 5th-round pick in this month's NFL Draft. Sims started 31 games for Seattle over the past 3 seasons and still has plenty of upside at just 26 years old. He'll move right into Detroit's starting lineup.

As expected, the Rams have released QB Marc Bulger. The move saves them $8.5 million. It leaves St. Louis with A.J. Feeley, Keith Null, and Mike Reilly as the only QBs on the roster and all but guarantees that they'll select Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford with the 1st overall pick in this month's NFL Draft. Bulger turned 33 years old today and has spent all 9 of his NFL seasons with the Rams. He'll get scooped up before training camps get underway but probably won't get a shot to start.

With the Redskins' acquisition of QB Donovan McNabb, QB Jason Campbell is likely to be traded before the NFL Draft gets underway on April 22. According to ESPN Radio in Washington, the Bills, Panthers, Jaguars, and Raiders have already shown interest in Campbell. Jacksonville is the interesting name on that list. And it'd probably be the best place for Campbell to land.

With QB Donovan McNabb's trade to Washington, QB Kevin Kolb will take over as the starter in Philadelphia. And he won't face competition. HC Andy Reid adamantly stated in a press conference Sunday night that Kolb is his man. QB Michael Vick will not get a chance to compete for the starting job. With a young offense chock full of weapons, Kolb has top-10 upside in 2010.

This trade obviously has huge fantasy implications. QB Kevin Kolb takes over as the starter in Philly, while Washington's pass offense gets a major boost with McNabb at the helm. This would also seem to take the Redskins out of the running for a QB with the 4th overall pick in the draft.

Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart underwent surgery last January to remove a bone spur pressing into his Achilles tendon. It's something that's nagged him since joining the Panthers in 2008. "I was anxious to get it done," Stewart said. "The pain was just annoying, and I needed to get it done." Stewart is planning to be pain-free in 2010, although he's not expected to start running until June. He'll miss the team's OTAs but should be ready for training camp this summer.

Rams WR Laurent Robinson (leg) expects to be back on the field for OTAs in May. Robinson fractured his fibula and suffered a high ankle sprain in a Week 3 game against the Packers last year. Prior to the injury, he was off to an impressive start. As long as he's healthy, he'll enter training camp this summer with a good shot to win the team's #1 WR job.

The Cowboys have released LT Flozell Adams. The 12-year veteran was due a $2.5 million roster bonus on top of a $5 million salary for the 2010 season. But the move is still a bit of a head-scratcher. Adams is getting up there in age and has always been a penalty machine, but he's still a solid blindside protector. Dallas now has a gaping hole at LT and will likely spend one of their first 2 draft picks on a replacement. Going into the season with a rookie at LT is a dangerous move though.

The Chargers have inked Darren Sproles to a 1-year guaranteed salary of $7.28 million dollars, making him San Diego's starting, all-purpose, RB -- for now. When given the opportunity to carry the load on his own last season Sproles was unimpressive averaging just 3.7 yards per carry on the season. So look for the Chargers to add some thunder to Sproles lightning quick legs. Fresno St. product Ryan Matthews, or local boy, Toby Gerhart could be just what the Bolts are looking for as a compliment to Sproles.

LaDainian Tomlinson, NYJ

Former Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson blames his lackluster 2009 campaign on San Diego's play-calling. "Everything was taken away from me," LT said. "There wasn't an emphasis on running the football anymore, my best fullback was gone, the linemen were pass-blocking and it was a passing quarterback and a passing coach." Tomlinson isn't usually one to complain, but that doesn't mean he's not dead-wrong here. The Chargers turned into a pass-first team precisely because LT was no longer effective. His yards per carry average has declined the past 4 years, bottoming out at 3.3 last season.

Steve Smith, CAR

Steve Smith was recently on WFNZ AM in Charlotte, NC discussing the Panthers offseason moves and lack thereof this spring. Shockingly, Smith had this to say about his situation in Carolina: "Well the thing is, everybody keeps saying a compliment receiver to complement me . . . I don't want anyone to complement me. I'm turning 31 years old, people can say I'm losing speed, yada, yada, yada. I would like a younger guy to come in and eventually take my spot. I don't want to be a #1 anymore." An NFL WR that doesn't want to be the focal point of his offense? This has fantasy red flag written all over it. The Panthers are without a 1st round pick this year and have virtually no other WRs on the roster capable of taking over #1 WR duties, so don't expect much of a shakeup to the Panthers receiving corps. But Smith's lack of vigor is certainly disheartening.

Judging by what they gave up to acquire him, we knew the Seahawks were pretty high on QB Charlie Whitehurst. This past Wednesday, new HC Pete Carroll went into a little more detail about the team's thoughts on their new QB. "There's plenty of professional film (of him) to see," Carroll said. "He's thrown a lot of balls in preseason games, so we were able to break it down. He's got a natural release, a strong arm, and he's capable of making all the throws. We felt this was a guy who we could look towards in the future and could be a guy who develops into a top quarterback." Keep in mind that Whitehurst has never thrown an NFL pass. Unless Smith will be the one calling the plays -- which won't be the case -- we have a hard time believing this one. "It's important for us to do a good job of monitoring his carries for the game," HC Mike Smith said. "We have to make sure we don't overwork Michael throughout the season." He was 20 years old when we got him. He's a guy that's on the rise, and I think he needs to have that mentality. Looking for him to do great things for us." With the departure of RB Thomas Jones, Lil' Leon is in line for an increase in touches this season as long as he's healthy.

Brandon Marshall, MIA

NFL Network's Michael Lombardi reports that the Jets are working on putting together a package to trade for Broncos WR Brandon Marshall. The package reportedly won't contain New York's 1st-round pick. It's tough to see Denver parting with Marshall without receiving a 1st-round pick in return, but with few teams showing interest, the price tag may be getting lower.

Shaun Hill, SF

49ers QB Shaun Hill has been dealt to the Lions for a 7th-round pick in next year's draft. Hill was expendable after the 49ers signed QB David Carr earlier in the offseason. Hill is not especially talented, but he should prove to be an upgrade over Drew Stanton as Matt Stafford's backup and insurance policy. For just a 7th-round pick, the move makes a lot of sense for the Lions.

LaDainian Tomlinson, NYJ

Free-agent RB LaDainian Tomlinson has opted to sign with the Jets over the Vikings. LT signed the dotted line on a 2-year, $5.2 million deal with New York this afternoon. He'll join a backfield that includes RBs Shonn Greene and Leon Washington. Tomlinson will probably pick up 8-10 total touches per game and will likely steal more work from Washington than Greene. LT will be 31 before the season starts and doesn't offer the power or explosion that Greene does at this point. That being said, Tomlinson has found a nice landing spot here. The Jets are a run-first offense with an excellent offensive line. Look for LT to improve upon last season's 3.3 yards per carry average.

Brady Quinn, DEN

The Broncos and Browns have agreed on a trade that will send QB Brady Quinn to Denver in exchange for RB Peyton Hillis and a 2011 6th-round pick. The deal isn't surprising considering the Browns wanted to move Quinn and the Broncos were close to trading for him last offseason. Denver did good to "buy low" on Quinn, who was a 1st-round pick just 3 years ago. Quinn will come in and compete with QB Kyle Orton for Denver's starting job.

Jake Delhomme, CLE

Adam Schefter is reporting that the Browns' and Jake Delhomme have come to terms on a two-year deal, giving Delhomme a possible opportunity to start for Cleveland. It's apparent that Brady Quinn is no longer a part of Cleveland's plans, making Delhomme a candidate for the starting job. Seahawks' castoff, Seneca Wallace is also in the mix and likely has the upper hand at this point.

Ben Watson, CLE

The Browns have signed TE Ben Watson to a 3-year, $12 million contract. Watson has loads of athleticism but was never able to put it together in New England. He's averaged just 28 catches, 323 yards, and 4 TDs per year over the past 3 seasons. We don't see his numbers improving much on an anemic Browns offense.

Knowshon Moreno, DEN

Despite being selected 12th overall in last year's draft, Broncos RB Knowshon Moreno found himself in a time-share with veteran RB Correll Buckhalter last season. And it doesn't sound like that'll change in 2010. Broncos HC Josh McDaniels was recently asked about his thoughts on using a multiple-back offense. "That's something we'll always be interested in," McDaniels replied. "If there's another player we can put into the mix and share carries, we'll never be averse to that." It sounds like McDaniels will continue to pattern his offensive philosophy after that of Patriots HC Bill Belichick.

Wes Welker, NE

In addition to surgery on his torn ACL and MCL, the Boston Herald reports that Patriots WR Wes Welker is also rehabbing a torn rotator cuff. The recovery period for this injury isn't yet known, but Welker wasn't expected to be ready for the start of the 2010 season anyways. This is just another thing to worry about when he does come back.

Larry Johnson, KC

The Redskins have signed RB Larry Johnson to a 3-year, $12 million contract. It gives them another over-the-hill RB to pair with Clinton Portis. L.J. averaged just 3.3 yards per carry last season with the Chiefs and Bengals. It's tough to see him doing much better this year behind Washington's below-average offensive line.

Antonio Bryant, TB

The Bengals and WR Antonio Bryant have agreed to a 4-year, $28 million deal. Bryant struggled with injuries and poor QB play last season, posting only 37 catches for 585 yards and 3 TDs. But he's only 2 years removed from that big 1,248-yard, 7-TD season in 2008. There's no denying his injury history, but Bryant is an explosive playmaker when healthy. He can also be a headache in the locker room though. Coupled with WR Chad Ochocinco, the Bengals now have the biggest boom-or-bust WR tandem in the NFL. Should be fun in Cincinnati this year...

Thomas Jones, KC

ESPN's Adam Schefter -- via his Blackberry, of course -- reports that the Chiefs have signed free-agent RB Thomas Jones to a 2-year deal worth $5 million. It's backup money, and that's what we expect Jones to be. The 31-year-old averaged an impressive 4.2 yards per carry in New York last season. But that was behind one of the best offensive lines in the game. He won't have that luxury in Kansas City. Expect the Chiefs to use the quicker and more explosive Jamaal Charles as their primary ball-carrier while getting Jones 8-10 touches per game. That being said, expect Jones to vulture the goal-line work. The move definitely puts a dent in Charles' value, but he still has top-10 upside.
