Chris Wells, ARI

19
Mike Sando of ESPN projects that Chris Wells may have his carries increased gradually at the expense of Tim Hightower, and that Wells seems like the better big-play rushing threat.

Justin Fargas, OAK

18
Justin Fargas may be close to getting over his hamstring injury, but with Michael Bush looking like the clear #2 and goalline back in Oakland, he may be worth dropping in fantasy leagues at this point.

Willie Parker, PIT

18
Willie Parker will continue to start, but it's difficult to see how he will make much of an impact given the Steelers RB rotation. The Steelers plan to insert Rashard Mendenhall every 3rd series, and Mewelde Moore will still have a role on passing downs.

Mike Bell, PHI

16
With his 10-carry, 100-yard performance in the last preseason game, Mike Bell may have just earned himself a place in the Saints RB rotation. If so, this may affect Pierre Thomas's value more than Reggie Bush, but the value of each individual RB could be diluted for fantasy purposes.

Nate Washington, TEN

15
Nate Washington was shaping up to be a decent sleeper for this season. Unfortunately, his recent hamstring injury could set him back for 'several games' of the regular season. His draft value should be adjusted accordingly down to perhaps a last round gamble.

Mark Sanchez, NYJ

14
Despite an uneven performance in the last preseason game againt the Ravens, Jets headooach Rex Ryan endorsed rookie Mark Sanchez as his opening day starter. Ryan stated that Sanchez gives the Jets 'Their best chance to win'. Certainly when the alternative is Kellen Clemens, that is probably the case.

Joseph Addai, IND

Joseph Addai is said to look healthy after his injury-riddled 2008 campaign. Of course it will be nice to see some actual results after his fantasy disaster of last year, but he could be a nice bargain in drafts this year.

Rashard Mendenhall, PIT

The Steelers are still trying to assess the progress of Rashard Mendenhall, but so far he has failed to distinguish himself as the elite RB that they thought they drafted last spring.

Robert Meachem, NO

17
Since his selection by the Saints in the 1st round of 2007 draft, Meachem has not accomplished much. His rookie season was marred by injury, and he was often precluded from the field by poor route running in his 2nd season. Entering his 3rd year, the Saints are encouraged by his progress so far.

Bernard Scott, CIN

Carson Palmer is impressed with rookie RB Bernard Scott so far....'I like him a lot. I think he’s going to be really good. He’s going to be a good change of pace with the kind of big bruiser Cedric is but Benard has a lot of speed. … He’s been the star so far of all the rookies. He’s made the most plays and dropped the most jaws'

Brett Favre says it's for real this time, and he has officially retired. Of course we will see, but apparently his decision was related to the aches and pains that the 40-year old experienced after basic preparatory workout sessions.

Willis McGahee, BAL

1
Willis McGahee has been placed on the PUP list, but the Ravens assert that this is just a precautionary gesture to make sure he is completely ready before committing to practice. The general status of McGahee has otherwise been positive - he is said to be in good shape and experiencing no side-effects from last years knee surgery.

Derrick Mason, BAL

As rumored on the NationFootballPost, the Ravens are not going to give up on Derrick Mason just yet. The team is scheduled to meet with the recently retired receiver this week. In the meantime Demetrius Williams, and especially Mark Clayton have elevated fantasy value.

Ben Watson, CLE

11
For what it's worth, Ben Watson is still favored to start over newly acquired TE's Chris Baker and Alex Smith. Despite playing 87% of the offensive snaps for the team last season, Watson had little to show for it, with only 22 catches, 209 yards and 2 TDs.

Fred Jackson, BUF

Good point Zen. RBBC would be unfortunate, but Fred Jackson still seems like a good bet this year. In addition to the probable 3-game suspension, it seems there is becoming less to like about Marshawn Lynch this year.

Davone Bess, MIA

4
While Ted Ginn is expected to make strides this season, and Greg Camarillo seems set to start opposite him, Davone Bess is another Miami receiver worth watching this preseason. He is not known for his speed, but Bess has great hands and exhibits smart route running. He could be a fantasy factor operating from the slot for the Dolphins this year.

James Jones, GB

3
After his strong 47 catch, 676 yard rookie season in 2007, James Jones was persistantly derailed by knee problems in 2008. The early reports are encouraging so far for Jones in 2009. He seems to have recovered from his knee problems, and could be a player who makes a surprise impact if he can win the #3 receiver spot over Jordy Nelson.

Jared Cook, TEN

Titans TE Alge Crumpler notes that rookie TE Jared Cook has the potential to represent a 'total mismatch' given his great size, and ability to outrun most linebackers. Cook is still expected to backup Bo Scaife this season, and needs to cut down his drops, but he is a player to watch.

Chaz Schilens, OAK

For a 7th round rookie who didn't become a starter until October, and ended up missing 6 weeks with an ankle injury, Chaz Schilens had a decent season in 2008 with 15 catches 226 yards. Moreover, he closed out the year on a positive note scoring in both weeks 16 and 17. With the status of both Darrius Heyward-Bey (hamstring) and Javon Walker in question at this point, Schilens has been cited as the 'best receiver' in Raiders camp.

Rashard Mendenhall has looked strong in the early preseason, and the hopes are that he will be able to assume a significant role in 2009 as a possible backfield partner with Willie Parker. As a highly touted rookie, Mendenhall missed almost the entire 2008 season with a broken shoulder blade.

Dolphin coach Tony Sparano made a note of how impressed he has been with Ted Ginn during the recent OTAs. He suggests that Ginn might finally emerge as the #1 receiver Miami was lacking during last season, and even used the term 'dominant' to describe the recent play of the 3rd-year receiver.

It's difficult to expect Carnell Williams to be a significant factor for the Bucs this year, especially after the off-season signing of Derrick Ward. However, for what it's worth, he is progressing well 5 months after his latest knee surgery, and expects to be ready for the staet of training camp.

Brian Robiskie, CLE

1
Brian Robiskie may not have commanded the attention of the several wide receivers drafted immediately before him, but it would not be a surprise if he outperforms all of them in his first year. His measurables are strong, he has great size, good speed, and the requisite agility and quickness for the position, but his maturity, work ethic and football instincts might be the attributes that allow him to adapt quickly to the pro game.

The Bears 3rd round pick improved every year in college, capping off his career at Oklahoma with a 74 catch, 1,150 yard, 10 TD season. He enters a great situation in Chicago, where Jay Cutler now makes the Bears passing game instantly viable, and it's easy to envision him beating out Rashied Davis and/or Earl Bennett for significant playing time early this season.
